Saving a Life is as easy as A-E-D

In the time it takes you to read this information, Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) will have claimed another victim. Statistics show that over 300,000 Americans die of SCA every year. Up to 50,000 of these deaths could have been prevented if someone on scene had initiated the Cardiac Chain of Survival and an automated external defibrillator (AED) had been available for immediate use at the time of the emergency.

The American Red Cross has a vision of one person in every household being trained in First Aid and CPR lifesaving skills, and all Americans being within four minutes of an AED with someone trained to use it in the event of sudden cardiac arrest.

My brother's life was recently saved with an AED device that was available at the country club where he was hosting a family function in New York.  I was surprised to find out that the State of Florida currently has no mandate on having these life saving devices in schools, stadiums, large venues or other public places where crowds gather.

READ HOW HIS LIFE WAS SAVED BY AN AED AND HOW THE FRIEND WHO SAVED HIM HAS SAVED 2 PEOPLE IN THREE YEARS WITH AN AED DEVICE!!

In August  2009 Wellness Wednesday collected Diapers and other supplies for Destiny Diaper Bank, including wipes and strollers at our annual "Fun at the Funeral Home" event at Anderson-Patterson Funeral Home. We received almost $1000 in items. Wellness Wednesday is a monthly Destiny Diaper Bank drop off site. Please bring any items you may have that are no longer being used to each month's event and you will receive extra chances to win prizes. DDB can use baby and children's clothes, balms, lotions, shampoo, cribs, strollers, sheets, you name it, if it can be recycled for a family in need, Destiny Diaper Bank can put it to good use. Thanks!

Daryn & Angie Patterson, Heather Edwards and Rev. Rebecca Hines with donations received at the August Wellness Wednesday held at Anderson~Patterson Cremation & Funeral Services in Fort Myers. Almost $1000 in donations & supplies were collected and we all had "Fun at the Funeral Home" as well.

The July 2009 Wellness Wednesday Fundraiser at the VIP Center in North Fort Myers was a huge success, raising not just money, but awareness for the Visually Impaired Persons Center. The Calendar Girls performed for the crowd, and we gave away hundreds of dollars of donated prizes in the raffle. Once again, Nick Abram was our guest massage therapist, providing free chair massage and we had an enthusiastic crowd who all enjoyed an evening of health, wellness and awareness of an organization that has helped countless blind and visually impaired people since 1974.

If you would like to donate to the VIP Center, you may contact them at www.VIPCenter.org or call 239-997-7797.

If your finances were making you sick, a night of Wellness Wednesday was the cure at Orion Bank in April 2009. 2 $50.00 Visa gift cards were given away courtesy of our host, Orion Bank and Nick Abram of Peace of Mind Body & Sole provided free chair massage all evening.

Orion Bank's friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you with all your banking needs and will always treat you with the respect and value that you deserve. Stop by and meet ToniRae Hurley and her outstanding staff. 1715 Cape Coral Parkway West, Cape Coral. Or call 239-541-5205.

March 2009 Wellness Wednesday at Rhythm In Motion Dance Academy kept us all on our toes.... All attendees received a free certificate for a one-to-one dance instruction with Gregg Kurth, and if that wasn't enough the dance presentation was fabulous.
